How much does architectural rendering cost? What drives the price

DARK · 2026-10-29

There is no single price for a render, because no two projects ask for the same thing. What you can know in advance is what moves the price up or down — and what to send so a studio can give you a fixed number instead of an estimate.

How much does architectural rendering cost? What drives the price

1. The number and type of views

The biggest factor is how many final images you need and what they show. An exterior hero shot of one building is a different job from a full set covering exteriors, every interior and the amenities. Interiors usually take more styling work than exteriors; aerial views of a site take more context modeling than an eye-level view of a façade.

2. The level of detail and how ready the design is

A finished architectural set with a finish schedule lets the studio build once. When the design is still changing, or materials and furniture are undecided, the model has to be adjusted as decisions are made — that time is part of the price. Landscaping, custom furniture, detailed context (neighbouring buildings, streets, people, cars) and night or seasonal variants all add work.

3. Animation, tours and VR

Moving images cost more than stills because every second is many frames, and camera paths, timing, sound and editing are added. A short walkthrough of a residence is a different scope from a full launch film of a development. Interactive formats — a real-time walkthrough, a VR experience or a Gaussian-splat tour — are priced on how much of the project the viewer can explore.

4. Deadline and revisions

Rush deadlines need more people on the project at once. Revision rounds are normal — the question is how many are planned and when. A clear schedule with draft frames at agreed stages keeps revisions efficient and avoids paying twice for the same change.

5. Reuse across deliverables

If the same 3D model feeds renders, a walkthrough, a tour and the website imagery, the modeling is done once. That is why ordering a package for a development is usually more efficient than ordering each piece separately from different suppliers.

What to send for an accurate quote

The fastest way to a fixed price is to send:

  • Plans, elevations and sections (PDF or DWG), or the 3D model (Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, ArchiCAD, IFC)
  • The finish and material schedule, or reference images
  • The views you need: how many exteriors, interiors, aerials
  • For animation: approximate length and what it must show
  • Your deadline and where the images will be used (print, web, billboards, sales gallery)

Fixed quote or hourly?

Hourly billing makes the final price unpredictable for the client. We quote every project at a fixed, all-in price within 24 hours of receiving the material, with the schedule and revision stages agreed before work starts.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a price without drawings?

A rough range, yes; a fixed price needs at least plans or a model and a list of views. Sketches are enough to start the conversation.

Is it cheaper to order renders and animation together?

Usually yes, because the same 3D model is reused for both instead of being built twice.

Do revisions cost extra?

Revisions within the agreed scope and stages are part of the quote. Changes to the design itself after approval are quoted separately.
